From August 11-16, 2025, a Vietnamese delegation including representatives from the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, the National Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, and the National Center for Barcode and Barcode/GS1 Vietnam conducted a survey and working visit to Germany and France. The trip aimed to exchange experiences on implementing the Digital Product Passport and electronic labels, while also updating knowledge on the latest technical requirements of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

Cooperation with GS1 Germany: Experience with Digital Product Passports and Electronic Labels

In Germany, the delegation worked closely with GS1 Germany to learn about their model for implementing digital passports and electronic labels in the supply chain. Discussions focused on integrating product data onto digital platforms to ensure transparency and easy traceability throughout a product's lifecycle. German experts also shared their experiences in helping businesses comply with the EUDR for sensitive goods like wood, coffee, and rubber—all key export items for Vietnam.

Working with GS1 France: Opportunities for Long-Term Digitalization Cooperation

Following their visit to Germany, the delegation participated in a seminar in France where they summarized and presented GS1 Vietnam's traceability system, opening up opportunities for long-term cooperation in international digitalization and standardization. GS1 France introduced its management model for digital product passports and electronic labels, along with policies to help exporting businesses adapt to the deforestation regulation. Experts also highlighted the global trend toward digitizing product data, viewing traceability as a crucial tool for enhancing supply chain transparency and reducing commercial fraud.

Trends and Impacts on Vietnamese Businesses

These exchanges provided valuable lessons for Vietnamese businesses. In an era of global integration, data transparency and compliance with international standards are not just mandatory requirements but also key to boosting competitiveness. This is why traceability solutions like GCheck and NDATrace are becoming essential. By digitizing product data and integrating international-standard traceability information, Vietnamese traceability solutions help domestic businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, meet the strict import regulations of the EU, building trust with global partners and consumers.
