Traceability Solution: The Key to Preventing Goods of Unknown Origin

The Alarming Reality

In the first six months of 2025, the situation of smuggling, counterfeit goods, commercial fraud, and intellectual property violations continued to increase on a large scale. Authorities have been handling hundreds of cases every day.

The Ministry of Public Security alone has initiated criminal proceedings in 124 cases with 297 defendants, seizing counterfeit goods valued at over 12 trillion VND. Two typical violating businesses were Z Holding (7 trillion VND in counterfeit goods) and Big Holding (4 trillion VND).

Smuggling and commercial fraud remain attractive due to excessive profits, coupled with the rapid development of e-commerce. However, legal loopholes, uneven management capacity, and "complicity" from some officials have made the issue more severe.

Project 06 and the Urgent Need for Product Transparency

In the context of deep global integration, where goods circulate not only domestically but also across borders, product traceability is increasingly becoming a "passport" that ensures reputation and quality. The government has clearly defined this in Project 06. A national project on developing population and interconnected data, in which goods origin data is a crucial component.

This is not just for state management but also:

  • For citizens: It reduces the risk of purchasing counterfeit and poor-quality goods that directly affect health and rights.

  • For businesses: It limits damages from counterfeit products, protects brand reputation, and strengthens credibility in the market.

  • For regulatory agencies: It allows for real-time monitoring of goods circulation, prevents tax revenue loss, and stops legal circumvention.

Thus, product transparency is no longer a choice but a necessary requirement to enhance the competitiveness of the economy and protect the legal rights of the community.

The Solution: A Goods Traceability System

In order to thoroughly tackle the issue of counterfeit goods and commercial fraud, the Ministry of Public Security and domestic technology units are collaborating to implement a goods traceability system. Built upon Project 06, the international standard GS1, along with other relevant regulations and circulars, this is not only an effort to combat counterfeits but also an opportunity for many technology companies to participate and contribute solutions to build a more transparent and safer market, earning greater trust from the public.

Towards a Transparent and Safe Market

When the platform is deployed, the Vietnamese market will enter a new phase: a phase where consumer trust is no longer shaken by the fear of counterfeit goods, a phase where legitimate businesses can compete more fairly instead of being "suffocated" by smuggled goods, and a phase where the government has a powerful management tool to protect public health and prevent revenue loss. Furthermore, the traceability system is not just a solution for the present but also a foundation to build a transparent, sustainable, and internationally integrated economy.
